I just visited Tully's Bakery today after my ballet class in the East Village. What a sweet (no pun intended) shop it is indeed. It is a small place and how fitting, it is very close to the famous Veniero's Bakery on 11th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. No more ogling the Veniero's window displays of various wheat-based baked offerings. And hallelujah! There is an alternative to Babycakes for the celiacs among us. There is no wheat or spelt used in the bakery so there are no worries of cross contamination. However, they have a cookie that contains certified GF oatmeal. I for one, am still on the fence regarding the gluten free nature of any oatmeal. I love oatmeal dearly, but when I eat the so-called certified GF stuff, my digestive system is not happy. I am willing to try out Tully's oatmeal cookie on a day I am feeling particularly brave. So what did I get? A vanilla cupcake with strawberry icing. The verdict- I give it an A! Thank you Tully, the ingenious baker, well done!
